Another Xmas has come and gone. Although I don’t celebrate the holiday, we still take the opportunity for some family fun time. After a traditional Xmas eve dinner of Chinese food, we woke up early and headed up the hill to enjoy a day of skiing.
Away we go!
Avery packed us all PB&J’s for lunch and with the minivan packed to the gills with ski stuff, we ventured up Mt Rose Highway to our destination.
I would be lying if I didn’t say we had a few obstacles along the way:
- Sam’s contact lens folded in his eye which required us stopping at the mini-mart to get some saline solution
- ski rental place (Sam is growing so fast, we don’t buy him skis yet) was overrun with tourists. (should have been an omen of what was to come)
- howling wind upon arrival to Mt Rose
- tourist invasion means stay off the bunny hills or you will get run over by a novice
- I completely blew it by forgetting essentials including helmet , gloves and goggles
suck it up time!
OK, so the trip was less than perfect. However, we still were together as a family. Aside from the crazy headwinds hindering descending the mountain, we had fun.
We were able to scramble together enough gear for me to stay safe and warm on the slopes and against my beliefs, I wasn’t too bad of a skier for the first run of the season. In reality, Sam was much happier eating chicken nuggets while the rest of us skied. Robert will get his skis locally so that there will be no further issues.
movie time!
The day was topped off with a trip to the movies after skiing. Les Miserables was opening Xmas day, and Avery my sister and I were not about to miss it. We waited over an hour in line, but it was totally worth it. I had the opportunity to cry and sing at the same time (two of my favorite things).
Snow was falling upon exiting the theater. It was time to snuggle up at home again. Overall, this was one of the better Xmas’s I can recall. The next day we had about 2 inches of snow blanketing the house. The dogs loved scampering in the fluffy white stuff which brought smiles to all of our faces.
Your turn What was your Xmas like? Did you spend it with friends/family/complete strangers on the mountain? This post was inspired by Mama’s Losin It weekly Vlogging workshop. You should definitely check it out! I have found loads of material for new content through Kat.
